Summer Baby

I have always loved shopping for myself and for others, but favorite person to currently shop for is obviously my daughter. I started buying things for her before she was even born. The small outfits exude adorableness are irresistible not to buy when out in the store. Now that she is a little bigger and able to hold herself up better, the clothes look even more cute.  For this summer I have been buying her airy dresses, 2 piece bathing suits with rash guards (for easy diaper change and protection from the sun), and rompers. Those rompers are just about the best thing out there for little ones. They’re light, have quick access for changing a diaper and are the quintessential baby ‘must have’ for the Summer .

Lemon Ice Box Pie

When choosing a dessert, my standard choice is anything chocolate or anything that incorporates a warm and cold combo, warm apple crumble and vanilla ice cream. Then I had this pie! The lemon filling almost resembled that of more tart version of a key lime pie, it had that beautiful creamy, cold, tangy, slightly sweet combination. My main complaint with most lemon desserts is that they taste artificial. I loved this one because the tart taste come from real lemon juice and lemon zest. This will be my go-to dessert this Summer as it could be replaced for the standard ice cream at the end of meal. I hope to convert more ‘non-lemon’ lovers into lemon lovers. I think anyone would be a convert after just one bite.

(I’m so happy I made back into the kitchen to share this dessert with you. It’s been quite a few months. My last food blog post is here. )

The Best Gift

This weekend I get celebrate my first Mother’s Day and I could not be more thrilled than to spend it with my little family and extended family later on in the day. I am constantly in awe of this little one that brings me so much joy and I feel beyond lucky to be her mother. Sometimes it’s still surreal to me that she’s my daughter and will for the rest of my life. I love spending time with her and as the months have gone on it just gets better and better. The day I became a Mother I had feelings that I never knew existed and have only grown since.

I also have a growing respect for all other mothers out there, especially my own. All that they do so selflessly, everyday.  If you have a mom or a motherly figure, I hope I can urge you to do something nice for them on Mother’s Day even if its only a phone call or drop off a card. Believe me, they will think it’s the most special thing in the world. ( I now understand when my mom says she doesn’t want any gifts for Mother’s Day, and only wants to spend time with her family.)

I hope all the moms have a great Mother’s Day!

Weekend Looks for Mother’s Day

Since becoming a mother, my outlook on clothing and outfits has changed some. I have always dressed more on the casual side, but now tend to dress even more casual. Unless, I’m at a work appointment or a night out with friends or my husband, my outfit choice tends to be t-shirts, jeans, flats or now, sandals.  I think its important to remain looking pulled together, even if the overall look is relaxed. I love all of these easy looks for a memorable 1st Mothers Day. And a major plus is that they’re all versatile; they can be easily washed, the  comfortable materials allow for movement and flexibility with little ones and the flats make it easy to go for an impromptu walk.

Welcome May

This month always has the best weather of the whole year. The sun shines intensely, but the humidity hasn’t started yet, making for warm and pleasant days. We always start on outside projects this month and the garden will be no exception. This year it will definitely be scaled back to probably just tomatoes (as they always do best), herbs and I may try to plant a fruit or two. The weekends are already starting to fill up with casual and relaxed dinners, my favorite type of plans. I’m also very excited to celebrate my first Mother’s Day as being a mom. I would be completely happy doing nothing, but I’m sure something great will come into works.

Hope everyone has a great month!

Summer Dreaming

Easy White Dress and Neutral Accessories

Easy White Dress and Neutral Accessories

This Spring has not lived up to its potential, weather wise that is. There were more cold and rainy days than I was hoping for, but there have more pleasant days as of lately and I hope this trend continues. During this time, I have been thinking of warmer days which has inevitably led me to start thinking of  summer clothes and how I will dress this Summer. I’ve decided that my Summer wardrobe will mainly consist of easy to throw on dresses, either a t-shirt or maxi one, jean shorts and t-shirts and most definitely a ton of cotton (easy to clean garments are a requirement with a baby.) I love these pictures for inspiration and I’m especially in awe of all the sunshine.

Citrus and Neutral

I think the pairing of neutral colors and citrus tones are quickly becoming a classic combination. The bright pop of color offsets the muted tone so perfectly and the opposite colors balance each other ideally.  This shining combo is a one that I cannot get enough of this Spring. Will you be trying it?

Blouse on Repeat

Every once in a while you come across a blouse that’s so good and fits your style so well, that you wear it multiple days in a row. Case in point, the blouse shown here. The painterly flowers, light blush color and slim, but roomy cut of the blouse made it in an easy choice in the store.  This past weekend I did some celebrating of my birthday and this boyfriend blouse seemed to fit every ocassion. (I literally wore it Friday, Saturday and Sunday.) I wore it more casually some days with jeans and boots and am looking forward to wearing it again, quite possibly this weekend.

Trending this Spring

There are always those prominent trends every season that you see everywhere and on everyone. And then there are those other styles that are trending in not such a prominent way and those are always my favorite. Here are a few of my personal favorites this season:

Fit and Flare – The ultimate and feminine dress shape. The fitted body and flared skirt is a silhouette that is flattering on everyone. Such a fun way to celebrate Spring.  French Connection dress

Perforated Leather – As we know leather is a big trend for Spring, but perforated leather adds detail to other wise classic pieces. It makes pieces look breathable for this warmer season, in turn making them feel fresh and even more appealing. Simply Sole perforated bag

Statement Jacket- One piece to add to your wardrobe that can instantly make it feel updated. A bold, but versatile jacket can be your ‘easy to grab piece’ when everyone else seems like you have worn it ’100 times.’ I love this one because it has enough embellishment to make it eye-catching, but the tone-on-tone make it neutral enough for repeated wear with out making it too noticeable.  H+M blazer

Bold Gold Jewelry – While I do love the look of delicately layered jewelry. One bold piece makes for ease while getting dressed. A gold or silver statement piece can complete an other simple outfit, keeping the look sleek and minimal. Alternatively, a flower printed dress would make a wonderful backdrop to display a bold piece.  Forever 21 cuff

Colored Metallics – The glimmering sheen of metallics has been updated this season in an array of colors. Silver and Gold are always the standard classic metallics, but the addition of colorful metallics really refreshes this trend.  Adding a metallic accessory to any ensemble can pack some major shine to any outfit. Cambridge Satchel

Current Favorites

From time to time, I like to share what my current favorites are in fashion and food. These items are what I have been relying on most these past few weeks. And I plan on using them in high rotation for the rest of Spring and probably the rest of the year.

I picked this blazer up on a whim last week at H+M. The color is the idyllic shade of blush and for $34.95 I couldn’t pass it up. It’s a welcomed addition to my blazer collection, as it will go with jeans and a tee, and just as easily with a floral dress.

This Alexis Bittar necklace is one that I have had for quite some time and yet it always makes a reappearance in my jewelry favorites. It’s casual meets somewhat dressy, making it perfect for slightly dressing up a t-shirt or doing the reverse and slightly dressing down an otherwise fancy top.

With all of the cooking websites, blog, apps out there, I still prefer a food magazine. I have a tendency to get overwhelmed when I’m looking for new recipes. Especially when I type ‘chicken’ into the search box and 2,493 recipes show up.  I get bored after reading a couple of recipes and don’t have the patience to click the rest of the sites pages. I often buy Cooking Light for inspirational, healthier meals. I recently purchased a subscription because I find the recipes are trusted, tried and fairly quick.  Knowing that the meals won’t take all night to make (especially with a newborn) and that they flavor won’t be compromised despite that they are low in calories, sells me every time.

My collection of grey sweatshirts has grown once again. At first I was drawn to the shirt because it was heather gray and then I was intrigued by the sheer, chiffon sleeve. It’s the ultimate casual, chic piece. I’ve already paired it with army green khakis and boyfriend jeans and a rhinestone necklace completes the outfit by adding a feminine touch.

These are one my must have’ shoes for this Spring. The d’orsay shape is an upgraded change for the basic black flat. The fact they’re fabric as opposed to leather makes them all the more comfortable and open side silhouette makes them more appropriate for Spring.

Neutral meets neutral, enough said. Honestly, this is the epitome of easy for me. Two of my favorite colors combined into one bag and its adorned on the handle with studs, so consider me smitten. I love that it’s a timeless shape, yet the studs make it the slightest bit edgy. (last seen here) (sold here)
